Fast grow the boards on the slopes: The sports school region scores with three different ski resorts – Kitzsteinhorn, Schmittenhöhe and Maiskogel – with around 138 km of slopes and a balanced mixture for all levels. Kitzsteinhorns most demanding slope the Black Mamba is 1,000 meters long and with an up to 63-percent slope can be a real challenge for skiers. If you are looking for some fun on the mountain Zeller, you can head over to Schmittenhöhebahn and find the Funslope – which is the longest in the world, with many tunnels and steep turns over a length of 1,300 meters. On the Schmittenhöhe kids can easily learn to ski small Pistenflitzer with the dragon Schmidolin and his friends in the “Schmidolins Dragon Park”. Particularly family-friendly is the Maiskogel ski area in Kaprun with wide and gentle slopes to around 20 kilometers.
After about 15 years of slumber offers the Ronachkopf in Thumserbach new routes are open for the alternative sports ski touring and snowshoeing. The Kitzsteinhorn glacier is open from October to May with one hundred percent guaranteed snow up to 3,029 meters and the off-piste paths away from the slopes can make your heart beat faster.
Up on the glacier you will find the ICE CAMP presented by Audi quattro, which is a fascinating wonderland of ice and snow for all winter lovers, will be open for the in January and reachable with a guided snowshoe hike. Where once have only the best skiers pulled their turns through the snow, everybody can now relax and rest.
The new routes to the ski mountain Ronachkopf promise ski touring and snowshoeing an impressive panorama of the Schmittenhöhe, Zell am See and the Hohe Tauern. The route is about 2.5 kilometers long and overcomes 500 vertical meters. Below the peak loads the Enzianhütte at 1,350 meters with regional specialties to stay. Sports School Zell am See Kaprun – Snowshoe Hiking on the Glacier
The new guided snowshoe hike opening on 7th of January and closing on 1st April 2015, will be open for everyone to enjoy the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and deep snow experience. The one and a half hour hike takes place from the Alpine Center via the ice camp trail to the impressive Ice Camp. The unique man build ice and snow world, which consists of approximately 60 tons of ice and 5,000 cubic meters of snow on 2600 m above sea level is truly a stylish meeting place on the Kitzsteinhorn. Three interconnected igloos with twelve meters in diameter, an ice bar and a cozy sun deck await you. Relaxing music and cool drinks like the show created especially for the ICE CAMP “Pure Glacier” Vodka, provide a good mood next to the slopes. After a well-earned break, the snowshoe trail leads back to the Alpine Center. The tour costs 25 euros including guidance and equipment.
From October skiers can explore two different ski slopes on the Kitzsteinhorn. The cable car leads directly up to 1,976 meters on Langwiedboden where the Info Point is situated where you can see the current snow conditions and possible off-piste avalanche dangers.
